A Million Little Lies by Bette Lee Crosby

Think about it.  What's the biggest lie you ever told?  Did you involve other people?  Was it a one off, or did it lead to more stories with big consequences?

This is my second Bette Lee Crosby book.  The first, Baby Girl, a five tissue story, was inspired by a young Lakeshore woman whose choices led to challenges that would conquer most of us.  Not so for her. She rises about the hardships and...well...there is a happy ending.

Like Baby Girl, A Million Little Lies would be a perfect Hallmark Channel movie.  Why haven't they rung Bette's bell yet?  Southern charm and hospitality form the background of this page turner.  Forget what the title says, Suzanna Duff tells big lies and the repercussions are just as big.  Running with her daughter from an abusive relationship, they pass though Georgia.  An adroit  liar since childhood, Suzanna revs up that talent and masquerades as the long missing granddaughter of a recently deceased local gentleman.

Learning as much as possible about the real, granddaughter, Suzanne lives comfortably with her sympathetic "grandmother," Ida Parker.  Of course, the big lie - the pretending - necessitates a string of lies and evasions in order to safely blend into a community.  What about a job?  How will her daughter be enrolled in school?  What if a romantic relationship evolves?  And, ever haunting her, is the worry that Ida's true granddaughter may return. Suzanna needed intricate and devious lies to answer those questions .

Good people make bad choices and, of course, those choice have consequences.   We all have been there, probably in much less complicated ways. Still, the choice that Suzanna must make to clarify her life and set things straight will resonate with readers.

Thank you, Bette Lee Crosby, for telling my friend's story in Baby Girl, and for generously sending me a beautiful signed copy of this new title.

Thanks for stopping by.
Stay safe. Stay healthy. Stay happy.
